General title page with engraved portrait frontispiece of the author by John Chantry, captioned and dated "Aetatis Suae 60 An° Domini 1662," plus a separate divisional title page to the first part. Woodcut decorative head-pieces to the text and to the Index Locorum S. Scripturae. Double-column text throughout, with Hebrew and Greek type interspersed among the English and Latin. Bound in contemporary brown calf, blind-ruled panel to boards. Spine with raised bands, red morocco label lettered in gilt "CRITICA SACRA 1662." Extremities heavily worn throughout; spine leather chipped and flaking at head and tail with loss exposing the cords, joints cracked and splitting at the front. Boards rubbed and scuffed, corners worn through in places. Edges and pages toned and foxed throughout, with occasional small wormholes near the gutter of a few leaves. Endpapers and pastedowns browned and foxed; contemporary ownership inscription in ink to rear paste-down, "Thomas Langhorne his book bought November 10, 1664," with a later pencilled price and stock notation beside it (partially legible). Frontis piece laid down, text bright, text block sound and tight despite external wear. Occasional irregular pagination.
