VG. Item #144190
First edition [?] of this outrageously scatological three act play in which the leading characters have impudently punningly names, inconceivably gross manners, insufferably uncouth speech and unconscionably obscene gestures. The plot is besmirched with stage directions to shame the most brazen. Much of the action centers on the protagonist’s lower GI tract disorder and the team of four physicians’ revolting attention to it.
Grandval’s career as a comedic actor in the French provinces involved several false retirements, during one of which he produced this affront. Two undated editions with identically worded imprints appeared quite close together, probably about 1750. Of these two, NUC cites only NN NRU CtY. A fine copy of a scatological triumph with a lovely engraved title.
Barbier IV, 499; Querard III, 448; Gay III, 1118; Solienne 3479 & 3886.
