Midsummer Night Madness & Other Stories
London, Toronto: Jonathan Cape, 1932. Second printing 8vo. 283 pages. Green cloth binding, with bumped corners, some robbing, and small tears. No dust jacket. An unassuming volume of stories with something special inside the front cover:
Ernest Hemingway's ownership inscription. It reads: "Ernest Hemingway/ Calle Victoria, 2/ (Pleaser Return)" Calle Victoria, 2 is the address of the Hotel Biarritz in Madrid, Spain.
Hemingway stayed at this hotel, which no longer exists, several times -- on his sown in 1931, and with his second wife, Pauline, in 1933.
Hemingway liked the draft beer at the nearby Cervezeria Alvarez.
