Octavo (7 3/4 x 5 inches). 48 pages. Frontispiece and five plates engraved by C. du Bose after designs by Louis du Guernier; title page printed in red and black; engraved head-and-tail piece. Nineteenth-century polished calf with gold fillets to covers; five raised bands with ornaments in five compartments and a red leather title label. The year 1714 is at the foot of the spine. Some rubbing to the binding at the joints but altogether in very good condition. First complete and first separate edition. The poem originally had only two cantos when published in 1712 in Lintott’s Miscellaneous Poems and Translations. After Pope expanded it to five cantos it was published in this edition under his own name.
