Octavo (8 15/16 x 5 1/2 inches). 609 pages followed by front wrappers and ads bound in from the original publication as parts. With six illustrations by Robert Seymour and thirty-seven by Phiz (H. K. Browne). Top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Polished calf binding by F. Bedford with triple gilt fillets on upper and lower covers, five raised bands with five compartments richly tooled in gilt, one with the title and author’s name on a leather label, and another leather label with “London 1837” at the foot of the spine. Gilt dentelles and marbled endpapers.
FIRST EDITION with the following first issue points: imperfect “F” in the word “OF” in the headline of page 432, and on the engraved title page the sign above the door reads “VELLER.” The plates are in the earlier states, without captions. Includes three of the Addresses, including the rare one on the death of Seymour.
