 Quarto (10 3/4 x 8 1/4 inches). [4], [1]-200 pp.12 hand-colored plates, a wood-engraved title vignette, and 15 tailpieces. Bound in three-quarter blue Morocco and marbled boards with matching endpapers; five raised bands on spine with title and author in gilt. All edges trimmed.


 FIRST EDITION. Cruikshank’s talents shine in this handsome color plate book. His illustrations offer brilliant comic treatments of life in the British navy. He was a friend of the author, Matthew Henry Barker (1790-1846), who contributed to a variety of periodicals as “the old Sailor.”
