Octavos. Frontispiece portrait and six plates (five maps and a design for a thought machine). Contemporary brown paneled calf stamped in blind on the front and rear covers; labels on spines. Bindings generally quite worn and rubbed, chipped spine labels, bumped corners, and a few abrasions. The text is fresh and clean. Small early signature of Jo. Hay' on both title pages. Bookplates of John George Home-Drummond o Abbot's Grange and Millearne (1797-1848) on front pastedowns.


FIRST EDITION, third issue. Teerik's sate 'B' published in December 1726. The first three issues, published in octavo, are considered to comprise the 'first edition.' Generally thought of as Swift’s greatest masterpiece, Gulliver’s Travels is bitter, brilliant, and probably the most controversial of his satires.
